As of 2025, Gabe’s has provided two years of pre-planning, budgeting and scheduling assistance, and constructability reviews for this project. Their team will install 2.2 miles of conduits for a single-circuit 69kV XLPE underground conduit system. Before placing the conduit, which necessitates a slick bore of (4)-8” and (4)-4” HDPE, four different HDDs were completed: 2,285 LF , 734 LF, 680 LF and 563 LF. All HDPE internal fuses required debeading. The balance of the project length was installed by Gabe’s via open trench concrete encased ductbank.
This project sparked heavy local stakeholder involvement, in part because the conduits are run under prairie inhabited by protected and endangered species. Gabe’s early involvement was also necessary due to a challenging conduit path. The project requires our team to drill along an S-curve — a 45º horizontal bend and 24º vertical bend. After extensive preparation, the Gabe’s team executing the HDDs flawlessly and all post-install mandrel passes were successful.
