The Holland Board of Public Works needed to cross the Macatawa River. The Gabe’s team sliplined 3,200 feet of 20” FPVC into a 36” existing HDPE. They proofed the host pipe with various 20-foot mandrels prior to the slipline. After installing the 20” FPVC, the annulus space inside the 36” and outside the 20” required grouting. From there, they performed hydrostatic testing to confirm integrity and operating pressures.
This was the second project they performed for the Holland Board of Public Works. In July of 2022, Gabe’s helped this client lay 1,382 feet of 42” HDPE under a protected wetland. They conducted successful hydrostatic testing then, too. As a relationship-first organization, Gabe’s appreciates the opportunity to partner with clients connecting the public with utilities that make life possible.
To fill the annulus, Gabe’s had to continuously batch and agitate 57,000 gallons of grout while maintaining a strict project schedule. This job required extensive planning and design — their team designed the mandrels and pull head and performed buoyancy calculations to mitigate the pull force required.
