Gabe’s was brought in for a particularly challenging project. The Muskegon County Board of Public Works needed to install nearly 10,000 LF of 30” HDPE and DIP beneath the USACE regulated channel and soaring dunes in the state park.
Gabe’s completed (2) HDDs of 4,080 LF and 4,192 LF, with the balance being open trenched DIP. Both HDDs required buoyancy to lower pull-loads. Gabe’s was the Prime Contractor and self-performed the HDD and HDPE fusing.
The dunes created dramatic elevation changes of over 300 ft, and the active boating channel, necessitated the use of gyro steering. Gabe’s crews worked on this job in harsh winter conditions on the shore of Lake Michigan. Additionally, they needed to maintain mud properties in difficult sand conditions to maintain compliance with the mud plan submitted prior to construction.
